Senior Accountant

Coquitlam, BC, Canada - Full Time

Title:  Senior Accountant

Job Summary: The Payroll and Financial Reporting Administrator plays a key role within the finance team by managing full-cycle payroll and supporting accurate financial reporting and compliance. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and organizational skills, capable of handling complex payroll processes and adapting to a dynamic, growing environment. The role works closely with the Controller, HR, and program teams to improve processes, support reporting requirements, and enhance operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, the ability to work independently, and the interpersonal skills needed to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. This is an in-office position.

REPORTS TO: Controller

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES (includes but not limited to):
  • Partner with the Controller to deliver accurate and timely monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Prepare client-specific financial reports in accordance with funding and reporting requirements.
  • Identify, develop, and implement process improvements, including automation of manual workflows.
  • Create and provide financial reports to enhance efficiencies to support regional managers
  • Train program managers on reporting and documentation obligations and effective financial analysis
  • Ensure that responsibilities and questions are appropriately redirected to correct departments to achieve optimal effectiveness and efficiency
  • Manage full-cycle, bi-weekly payroll for 300+ employees, including salaried and hourly staff across union and non-union environments.
  • Collaborate with payroll system providers, internal developers, and Human Resources to support system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA and BC payroll legislation, as well as applicable collective agreements.
  • Maintain and reconcile Extended Health benefit and Municipal Pension Plan account.
  • Prepare and review payroll-related documentation, including reconciliations, taxable benefits, T4s, remittances, and PIER reporting.
  • Support annual external audits by preparing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of annual budgets.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Minimum 5 years of qualified experience.
  • CPA designation or equivalent education and experience.
  • PCP designation is considered as an asset.
  • Solid understanding in payroll and ability to handle payroll with over 300+ employees.
  • Ability to analyze and create financial reports.
  • Able to work in a growing organization environment. 
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Excel is a must.
  • Experience in Inclusion System and QuickBooks desktop is considered an asset.
  • Able to work under minimum supervision.
  • Experience in process improvement and automation experience is an asset.

Competitive Salary range of $65,000 – $75,000 per annum
